A Labor of Love

Owning an old home can be a labor of love. When remodeling or adding an addition, you can run into unforeseen circumstances. So many problems can arise, such as: wood-rot, a lack of insulation, or old wiring, you just never know what you’ll run into. I know this firsthand from my current historic home remodel.

We removed the old aluminum siding on the addition above the spring house and discovered that there was no plywood underneath. Plywood was then added and hardie plank siding was installed on top.
The sunroom off the back of the home is scheduled to get new windows and hardie plank siding as well. The windows were removed and a lot of wood rot was discovered. Hardie plank siding was installed on the back of the addition above the spring house.

The wood rot was pretty extensive, so much so that an extra day of unexpected labor was added in order for the wood rot to be repaired.

Luckily, there was not much wood rot on the back of the sunroom so new windows were installed. The old windows were single-pane, the new windows are double-pane, low-e, and energy efficient.
New insulation has been installed, plywood has been added with Tyvek. Now all that’s left is for the hardie-plank to be installed.
